It has been reported in the literature that cataract surgery using ultrasound has an unintended but beneficial effect on the intraocular pressure of those patients that have coexisting glaucoma. In addition reports document that lasers, when used to treat glaucoma, trigger specific biochemical pathways of cytokines.
Eyesonix is developing prototypes to harness the effects of ultrasound to trigger a similar cytokine effect as is seen in laser glaucoma therapy and to utilize the inherent sonomechanical effect of ultrasound. |
